The Ecology Building Society was formed in 1981 in the wake of a Green party conference, when an attendee complained of being unable to find a mortgage for renovating a property. In the wake of this conversation, the Ecology Building Society was started with just £5,000 by ten members. Today, Ecology has assets of £100m, and is still dedicated to providing eco-friendly savings and mortgages.
