About Norwich and Peterborough Building Society
The Norwich and District Provident Permanent Benefit Building and Freehold Land Society was established in 1852, while the Peterborough Provincial Benefit Society was founded in 1860 by railway workers in Peterborough, to allow its members to build their own homes in the city.
In 1986 the two building societies merged to form Norwich and Peterborough Building Society, and in 2011 this was merged with Yorkshire Building Society, although the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society brand has been retained.
